What is it called?

·        Assisted Living Facility

o       Licensed for residential living care or residential living and assisted living care

 

What services are provided?

·        Residential care

o       Minimal assistance with activities of daily living (including medication administration)

·        Assisted living care

o       Moderate assistance with activities of daily living

o       Assure residents receive necessary restorative care and habilitative services

o       Arrange for specialized rehabilitative services

o       Hospice care

 

Who can be admitted?

·        Residential living care

o       Requires minimal assistance with activities of daily living

·        Assisted living care

o       Requires at least a moderate level of assistance with activities of daily living

o       Aggressive or disruptive personalities

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Must be refused admission or evicted

o       Needs the facility cannot meet

o       Ventilator dependency

o       Stage III or IV pressure sores (unless stage II sores are healing)

o       Airborne infectious disease in a communicable state, requiring isolation

o       Nasogastric tubes

o       Need for 24-hour continuous licensed nursing care

o       Certification by physician that placement is no longer appropriate

o       Need for maximum physical assistance (total dependence on four or more activities of daily living) if resident’s condition meets Medicaid standards for payment for nursing home care

o       Intravenous therapy

o       Injections into a vein

o       Care of gastric tubes (unless resident can perform the necessary tasks)

·        Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions if necessary services are provided by a physician, nurse, or home care agency

What training is required for direct care staff?

·        Initial training

o       First aid and emergency procedures

o       Detecting and reporting abuse, neglect, or exploitation

o       State approved program in assisted living care

·        Continuing training

o       At least 8 hours annually

o       At least 12 hours annually in assisted living care, focusing on care of resident who is mentally or physically impaired
