What is it called?

·        Residential Facility for Groups

 

What services are provided?

·        Limited supervision on a 24 hour basis

·        Assistance with activities of daily living

·        Assistance with medication administration of staff member has completed state-approved training and passed an examination

 

Who can be admitted?

·        Individuals who use wheelchairs or walkers if the facility is equipped properly and provides assistance at all exits and steps

·        The following needs may be accommodated if facility monitors and assists residents as needed and the resident receives appropriate treatment by a medical professional if necessary

o       Need for oxygen

o       Use of intermittent positive pressure breathing machine

o       Colostomy or ileostomy

o       Need for manual removal of fecal impactions, or use of enemas or suppositories

o       Indwelling catheter

o       Manageable bowel or bladder incontinence

o       Contractures

o       Diabetes

o       Regular intramuscular, subcutaneous or intradermal injections

o       Tracheostomy or open wound requiring treatment by medical professional

o       Presence or risk of developing a pressure ulcer

·        Individuals who require protective supervision only if

o       Resident is able to follow instructions

o       Resident is able to make needs known to caregivers

o       Facility direct-care staff members can meet resident’s needs and protect other residents

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Must be refused admission or evicted

o       Bedfast or immobile

o       Requires chemical/physical restraints, or requires confinement in locked quarters

o       Requires skilled nursing care on a 24-hour basis

o       Need for care the facility cannot provide

o       Need for gastrostomy care

o       Staphylococcus or other serious infection

o       Unmanageable bowel or bladder incontinence

o       Any other serious medical condition

·        Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions

o       Ill or injured residents who are expected to recover within 14 days may be retained

o       Facility may provide hospice care for terminally-ill residents

 

What training is required for direct care staff?

·        Initial training

o       Related care to residents

·        Continuing training

o       Eight hours per year on providing for residents’ needs

 

Is any public payment available?

·        Yes, the Medicaid program may pay for personal care services through a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver
