What is it called?

·        Assisted-Care Living Facility

 

What services are provided?

·        Facility provides

o       Assistance with activities of daily living

o       Assistance with self-administration of medication

o       Medication administration (by a licensed professional)

·        Third-party services

o       Intermittent nursing services may be provided by a home health agency (must not be more than three visits per week)

 

Who can be admitted?

·        Needs assistance with activities of daily living

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Must be refused admission or evicted

o       Latter stages of Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder

o       Requires nasopharyngeal or tracheotomy aspiration

o       Requires initial phases of a regimen involving administration of medical gases

o       Requires a nasogastric tube

o       Requires arterial blood gas monitoring

o       Requires gastrostomy feedings

o       Unable to communicate needs

o       Requires intravenous or daily intramuscular injections or intravenous feedings

o       Requires insertion, sterile irrigation, and replacement of catheters, except for routine maintenance of Foley catheters

o       Requires sterile wound care

o       Requires treatment of extensive Stage 3 or Stage 4 pressure ulcers or exfoliative dermatitis

o       Requires four or more skilled nursing visits per week

o       Needs cannot be met by the facility

·        Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions

o       Resident can be retained for a 21-day period and (with state approval) a 21-day extension if the resident requires

·        Intravenous or daily intramuscular injections or intravenous feedings

·        Insertion, sterile irrigation, and replacement of catheters, except for routine maintenance of Foley catheters

o       Resident is allowed to provide self-care, indefinitely, if there is a documented history of providing successful self-care in

·        Nasopharyngeal suctioning

·        Care of gastrostomy

·        Care of catheter that is resident’s sole means of eliminating waste

·        Oxygen administration

·        A licensed nurse must be available as needed (does not necessarily mean nurse is on-site)
