What services are provided?

·        Facility provides

o       Assistance with activities of daily living

o       Assistance with medications prescribed for self-administration

o       Medication administration

·        Must be administered by licensed health care professional or by a trained staff member

·        Third-party services

o       Hospice services may be provided by a licensed hospice

 

Who can be admitted?

·        Requires assistance with activities of daily, but not nursing home care

·        Immobile, but does not require long-term care services

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Needs that the facility cannot provide

·        Needs that would create an undue burden on the facility if it were to accommodate the needs

 

What training is required for direct care staff?

·        Initial training

o       Emergency preparedness

o       Reporting of abuse

o       State-approved course on at least

·        Activities of daily living

·        Personal hygiene

·        Care of residents with dementia

·        Precautions to avoid infections

·        Continuing training

o       At least 12 hours annually including

·        Medication self-administration

·        Infection control

 

Is any public payment available?

·        Medicaid funding is not available for personal care homes

·        There is a state supplement to Supplemental Social Security Income for residents
