What is it called?
· Home for the Aged; Adult Foster Care
What services are provided?
· Facility provides
o Assistance with personal care
o Hospice care if the facility is licensed as a hospice or hospice residence, so long as it does not charge or receive fees or third-party reimbursement for that care
· Third-party services
o Residents are allowed to receive hospice care from a third-party provider
Who can be admitted?
· Need assistance with personal care
Who is inappropriate?
· Must be refused admission or evicted
o Mental condition that disturbs others
o Require 24-hour nursing care or intensive nursing care
· Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions
o Residents may stay in the facility regardless of medical condition if the resident, the resident’s family, the resident’s physician, and the facility agree on continued stay
§ The facility must commit to assuring that the resident receives the necessary additional services
What training is required for direct care staff?
· Depends on the residents’ service plans and the employees’ needs
· May include: first aid, medication administration, personal care, and supervision
Is any public payment available?
· Yes, the Medicaid program may pay for assisted living services through a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver
· According to the 2007 Assisted Living State Regulatory Review, in licensed facilities, the Medicaid state plan covers personal care services only.
