What is it called?

·        Assisted Living Facility (North Dakota Department of Human Services)

·        Basic Care Facility (North Dakota Department of Health)

 

What services are provided?

·        Assistance with activities of daily living

·        Supervision of medication administration and nutrition

·        Health services to prevent disease, promote health, or to minimize effects of illness/disability

 

Who can be admitted?

·         Individuals who need at least moderate assistance with activities of daily living

 

Who is inappropriate?

·        Residents whose needs surpass the facility’s capacity of care

 

What training is required for direct care staff?

·        Fire and accident prevention and safety

·        Prevention and control of infections

·        Training is required for non-nurses who administer medication

 

Is any public payment available?

·        Yes, the Medicaid program may pay for Assisted Living services through a waiver if the resident is Medicaid eligible.

·        Yes, state assistance is available for Basic Care Facilities.  There is no federal assistance available for Basic Care Facilities.
