(04/09) Washington State considers legislation requiring assisted living facilities to disclose their Medicaid policy

Legislation that has passed the Legislature in Washington State, Senate Bill 6009, requires assisted living facilities (ALFs) to disclose to residents their policy on accepting Medicaid payments.  As originally introduced in February, the legislation would have made facility policy "a legally binding contract between the resident and the facility" and would have prohibited a facility from unilaterally changing the policy.  Approximately half of Washington's ALF residents, about 10,860 people, have their ALF services paid through Medicaid contracts.
