(12/08) Lone Star Funds buys 45 assisted living facilities owned by Sunwest Management

Sunwest Management, an Oregon-based developer and operator of assisted living facilities, defaulted on hundreds of millions of dollars in loans earlier this year.  It is selling 45 facilities in 11 states to Lone Star Funds, a private-equity firm based in Dallas, Texas, “whose self-described mission is to seek out ‘opportunistic investment situations’ around the globe.”  Diane Dietz, “Firm buys assisted living centers,” The Register-Guard (Dec. 11, 2008).  Another 45 of Sunwest Management’s 287 facilities are in foreclosure or Chapter 11 reorganization.
