(02/08) Assisted Living Concepts moves to evict 98-year old resident of Washington facility who became eligible for Medicaid after paying privately for 9½ years

Cordelia Robertson, a 98-year old resident of Franklin House, an Assisted Living Concepts facility in Washington State, who spent her life savings of $300,000 paying privately for her care at the facility for more than 9½ years, will be evicted after becoming eligible for Medicaid.  Although Mrs. Robertson’s son says that he had been repeatedly told that his mother could remain as a Medicaid beneficiary after she spent her money, the company says it sent families a letter years ago warning that Medicaid might not be available when their private funds ran out.  Other residents at the facility currently use Medicaid.  Deborah Feldman, “98-year-old kicked out of assisted living facility,” King5 News (Feb. 20, 2008).
