Endorsing a recommendation of state ombudsman Brian Lee, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel editorial calls for state legislation to protect assisted living residents from evictions.  “Florida’s assisted living facilities residents need tenant protections” (South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Editorial, Feb. 19, 2008).  The editorial recommends that residents be given the reason for proposed discharges and an opportunity to file an appeal.  Assisted living discharges are among the top complaints received by the ombudsman’s office.
