(01/08) Texas court enjoins operation of assisted living facility where manager threatened residents with hammer, withheld food, and physically, verbally, and mentally abused residents; facility allowed to reopen as board and care

At the request of the Texas Attorney General, a state court judge on January 25, 2008 issued a temporary injunction against the operation of an assisted living facility, God’s Intercessory Prayer Warriors Ministries, Inc., d/b/a Oasis Village, after an inspection by the state Department of Aging and Disability Services found evidence of physical, verbal, and mental abuse of residents by the facility manager.  Texas Attorney General, “Attorney General Abbott Takes Action To Protect Residents In Tarrant County Assisted Living Facility; DADS inspection indicates facility manager threatened residents with hammer, withheld food” (News Release, Jan. 28, 2008).  The Attorney General’s News Release includes links to the court pleadings.  The owner was allowed to reopen the facility for room and board only.  Darren Barbee, “Owner of former assisted-living center can reopen it for room and board only,” Star-Telegram (Jan. 24, 2008).
