10/12/07 Pennsylvania's House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee considers revising assisted living law
Last year's death of an assisted living resident whose breast cancer was undiagnosed and who arrived at the hospital "encrusted in filth and body fluids" has led Pennsylvania's House Aging and Older Adult Services Committee to consider four main reforms to assisted living requirements: "tougher penalties if neglect leads to a care-dependent person's death; mandating that staff report mentally impaired patients refusing treatment; more facility inspections; and enhanced disclosure rules." Daniel Axelrod, "Reforms pushed in elderly care," The Times-Tribune (Oct. 12, 2007).
