09/21/07 West Virginia assisted living facility closes after families remove residents
A West Virginia assisted living facility that the state Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification has been citing with deficiencies and trying to close for two years was closed on September 20 after family members removed residents when they heard allegations that the husband of a management staff member had sexually assaulted a resident. The facility has not been licensed since July 2005 and had been cited with, among other deficiencies, not having an adequate supply of food, being extremely unsanitary, not administering medications according to doctors' orders, paying utility bills with bad checks, and not having personal hygiene products available for residents. Surveyors believed residents were being exploited. The state had filed a petition in circuit court to close the facility.
