(1/15/10) Kentucky Manor Care assisted living facility cited again for endangering residents’ lives

In a five-month period in 2009, the Arden Courts assisted living facility (ALF) of Louisville, Kentucky, was cited twice for serious violations by the Kentucky licensing agency.  Arden Courts is operated by the Manor Care chain of facilities.

Initially, a series of citations was issued for failure to provide adequate care to seven residents, which resulted in residents suffering falls, developing pressure ulcers, and experiencing significant weight loss.  In a subsequent incident, a resident fell but was denied medical treatment.  Ultimately the resident’s family insisted that the resident be seen by a doctor, and the resident was found to have a pelvic fracture, low blood pressure, and a laceration requiring stitches.

In each case (for the series of deficiencies, and for the resident’s fall), the facility was issued a “Type A” citation, the most serious citation available under state law, with a maximum fine of $5,000.

"Personal care home didn't meet needs, state says; Arden Courts not able to meet needs," Louisville Courier Journal (Feb. 19, 2009); Deborah Yetter, “Arden home is cited again; Resident wasn’t helped after fall,” Louisville Courier-Journal (June 28, 2009).
