What is it called?
· According to the 2007 Assisted Living State Regulatory Review, the official licensure term is Assisted Living Facilities.
· Community-Based Residential Facility
What services are provided?
· Nursing care
· Medication administration
Who can be admitted?
· Requires only intermittent nursing care
· Able to exit the facility unassisted in an emergency (otherwise, can only be admitted into a Class C facility)
Who is inappropriate?
· Must be refused admission or evicted
o Needs nursing care more than three hours per week, for a period exceeding 90 days
o Confined to a bed, unless condition is temporary
o Needs are incompatible with other residents
o Needs exceed what facility can provide
o Requires 24-hour supervision by a nurse
· Exceptions to disqualifying conditions
o State may grant a waiver to allow a condition that would otherwise be prohibited
o Nursing care more than three hours per week for a period longer than 90 days can be accommodated if state waives this limitation due to stable condition, and the necessary services can be provided
What training is required for direct care staff?
· Initial training
o First aid and emergency procedures
o Infection prevention
· Continuing training
o At least 12 hours annually
· Additional training
o Eight hours in the administration and management of medication for non-medically licensed staff members who will manage or administer medications
Is any public payment available?
· Yes: Community Option Program (COP) and COP-Waiver funds may be available depending on eligibility and waiting lists
