What is it called?
· Assisted Living Residence – Supported Residential Health Care and Assisted Living Residence – Residential Care
What services are provided?
· Protective services, such as supervision of activities of daily living, nutrition, and medication
· Hospice care for terminally-ill residents who have less than one year to live
· Social and health services
o These also may be provided through a contract with an outside provider
Who can be admitted?
· Capable of self-evacuation
· Eligible for admission to a nursing facility if the facility can provide the required services and supports
o These facilities are licensed as Supportive Residential Care Facilities
Who is inappropriate?
· Must be refused admission or evicted
o For medical reasons
o Require 24-hour nursing supervision
· Exceptions to disqualifying eviction conditions
o 24-hour nursing supervision is allowed only on a temporary basis during a resident’s recovery period
What training is required for direct care staff?
· Orientation and training as determined by the administrator to meet resident needs
Is nurse staffing required?
· If facility provides nursing services, then a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse must perform the services
Is any public payment available?
· Yes, the Medicaid program may pay for assisted living services through a Medicaid Home and Community Based Services Waiver
